After leaving university Oliver established and ran his own business, before joining Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in July 2004. Oliver has a background in law, with a Masters degree in Commercial Law from Southampton University and LLB from the University of Kent at Canterbury.
Since joining Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd Oliver has worked extensively on newbuilding, sale and purchase and long term charter projects for all types of offshore, submarine cable and subsea mining vessels. His speciality has been negotiating complex conversion and long term charter contracts particularly relating to newbuilds entering the market, and has achieved significant success to become an industry leader in this arena. Oliver's speciality extends to financial workouts and planning for long term asset acquisitions or disposals and has been involved in a number of high profile projects which significantly improved the position of the client.
Oliver's success and reputation saw him appointed to the Board of Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in 2008 and is now focused on developing new business opportunities and expanding Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd's client base.
Oliver is a keen sportsman and motorsport enthusiast. He enjoys working with motorcycles and does all the maintenance and servicing on his older motorcycles.
Ian served 10 years in the Merchant Navy; starting as a Cadet with Furness Withy, UK and culminating with Jardine Ship Management, Hong Kong where Ian achieved the rank of Chief Officer.
When seeking a job ashore, it was quickly realised that sea-going qualifications would not be recognised and so Ian sought out a course which would help get him land-based. Having attended the City University Business School, London, Ian obtained a Master of Science degree in Shipping, Trade and Finance in 1988.
Having joined Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in November 1988, as a Trainee Shipbroker, Ian soon became responsible for the chartering of specialist vessels to support submarine fibre-optic cable and power cable installation projects in addition to maintenance operations and associated activities. Additional responsibilities included the establishment of forwarding activities, particularly with respect to cable projects and then expanded the Company's activities within the floating production and shuttle tanker sectors of the offshore market.
Ian was appointed a Director of Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in 1996 and along with Sean Harvey, was key to the successful Management Buyout from Michael Derrick in January 2002, which effected control of the Company to them.
Ian is a family man, enthusiastic (although mostly erratic) golfer, keen fly-fisherman and a staunch Arsenal FC supporter and over more than thirty years has travelled extensively to all continents except Antarctica (which is on his Bucket List!).
Stephen joined Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd from Clarksons Dubai where he worked as a shipbroker specialising in the Middle East and Indian tanker markets. His time spent in the Middle East helped him build up a wealth of local knowledge and put him in good stead to deal with clients on an international level.
In October 2009 he repatriated to the UK and continued his career with Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd. This was a great opportunity for him to become involved in the offshore shipping market. Stephen is based at the Guildford office where he works closely with the local team and also his colleagues in Aberdeen. He is equipped with a Bachelors degree in Business Management from the University of Leeds.
Stephen is a keen sportsman who enjoys partaking in a wide range of sports especially playing for his local rugby team Alton RFC.
Josh joined Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in June 2014 as a Trainee Shipbroker, supporting the Shipbrokers and Research team in our Guildford office. His responsibilities include focusing on the operational aspects of offshore projects along with chartering in the Renewables sector.
Previous to joining Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd, Josh worked in the Oil and Gas recruitment industry for two years where he focused on placing mid to senior level Engineers into Subsea Engineering companies. Through this he developed an interest in the Subsea market and wanted to develop a more technical understanding, becoming involved within the industry as opposed to seeing it from the 'outside'.
Outside work Josh leads an active lifestyle having a keen interest in most sports, in particular football where he is an avid fan of Chelsea FC and plays on Saturdays for a team based in Horley.
Simon joined Pareto Shipbrokers Ltd in November 2014 after spending three years working in sales and customer services. Currently working back in our Guildford office Simon provides a valuable link between the two offices having worked closely with all our Norwegian colleagues. His role is to support the Shipbrokers and Research team in our Guildford office and to further develop his knowledge and experience in the Offshore and Subsea Vessel Markets.
Outside of work Simon has a wide range of interests. He is a sports enthusiast, primarily kitesurfing and snowboarding, also fly fishing and shooting; he plays for a local football club and is a diehard Chelsea FC fan. He is an accomplished singer and enjoys playing several musical instruments.
